The fat burning soup diet is one of the latest fad diets. Supposedly, you can lose as much as 17 pounds in just one week. Are the claims true? Can you really lose almost 20 pounds in just one week by eating soup? In this article, we’ll shed light on this trendy diet so you can determine if it’s factual and if it’s the right diet for you.
What is the Fat Burning Soup Diet?
The fat burning soup diet, also known as the cabbage soup diet and the Sacred Heart Diet, was originally developed for people who are overweight and who suffer from heart issues.
The creator of this diet is unknown, but it’s believed to have been developed as a way to help patients with heart conditions who were going to have surgery lose weight quickly prior to their procedures. It has been speculated that it originated at the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital; however, the hospital denies that they were the creators of this diet. Though the inventor(s) of the fat burning soup diet are unknown, it has been determined that it started sometime in the 1980s, and that it was extremely popular through this decade, as well as the 1990s. Though its popularity has waned, it is still relatively trendy. Why wouldn’t it be? It claims to help you lose a significant amount of weight in a very short period of time, making it seem like the perfect solution for those who want to shed pounds.
Who Should Consider Using Fat Burning Soup?
As mentioned, it has been speculated that this diet was originally created for overweight people with heart conditions. Supposedly, by following this diet, patients would be able to lose weight quickly, making them healthy for heart surgery.
Of course, overweight individuals with heart conditions aren’t the only ones who can benefit from this diet; anyone who wants to have a lean stomach quickly can certainly benefit from the fat burning diet. However, it’s important to note that while you may shed some weight, it’s not likely that your weight loss will be lasting. In other words, this diet is a short-term solution for weight loss. So, if you are trying to shed a few pounds before a big event, it could be beneficial for you.
How does it Work?
This diet is supposed to last a span of 7 days, and supposedly, you can lose up to 17 pounds in that one week period.
Here’s how it works: for a period of 7 days, the majority of the food that you will consume will be the specialized cabbage soup that was specifically designed for this diet (hence the reason why it is also called the cabbage soup diet). You can also eat some fruits, vegetables, and drink skim milk; however, the amount of other foods you can eat is limited.
Here’s a breakdown of what you are supposed to consume during each day of the fat burning soup diet:
- First day. You can eat all the soup you want, as well as any fruit, with the exception of bananas.
- Second day. Again, all the soup you want, as well as fresh or canned veggies. No fruits.
- Third day. Fruits and veggies (except bananas) and as much soup as you want.
- Fourth day. On this day, you can eat up to three bananas and drink skim milk, and of course, soup.
- Fifth day. Tomatoes and beef on this day, as well as soup.
- Sixth day. Vegetables and beef, and at least one serving of the soup.
- Seventh day. Veggies, brown rice, and fruit juice (unsweetened).
Throughout the 7 days, you should also make sure that you are consuming plenty of water. You are permitted to drink cranberry juice and unsweetened tea, as well.
As long as you don’t stray from the plan, you are supposed to lose as much as 17 pounds by the end of the seventh day. That’s because the diet is supposed to remove impurities from your system, so it’s basically like a cleanse diet. Since digestive systems vary, the results will also vary. Some people may lose less weight, yet are still supposed to lose at least 10 pounds.
Recipe for the Fat Burning Soup
So, what’s the recipe for this so-called miracle soup? It’s pretty simple.
- 6 green or red onions
- 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes
- Cabbage head
- 2 green peppers
- Hot pepper
- Chopped garlic – 2 cloves
- Vegetable bouillon
Slice veggies into small pieces and saute in water, then boil for 10 minutes. Lower heat and simmer until the veggies are tender. Add in spices and vegetable bouillon and allow veggies to absorb the flavor.
That’s it! You can eat as much of the soup as you want throughout the 7 day period.
Things to Avoid
While on the diet, you should avoid eating foods that are high in carbohydrates, as well as anything that’s fried. You should also stay away from alcohol. You can drink coffee, but make sure you don’t add sweetener or milk.
